CLEEVE PRIOR WAR MEMORIAL VILLAGE HALL occupies a building that dates back some 500 years
and was originally the malt house for Peacock House Farm. The building was purchased by the
village from Farmer Sparrow at the end of the First World War and converted into a Memorial Hall to
honour the eleven villagers who lost their lives in The Great War. During the Second World War the
Hall was used as a workshop by the Army.
Following the 1977 Jubilee, funds were raised to carry out essential refurbishments and
improvements. For the Millennium the Hall was extended and refurbished with a grant from the
National Lottery Charities Board. The building comprises a large hall, licensed for a maximum of one
hundred people and a well-equipped modern kitchen.
There is a ground-floor committee room, which can be used as a Tea Room and contains a lending a
library, and an upstairs committee room which is used by the Parish Council as an office. There are
toilet and disabled facilities on the ground floor. Wheelchair access is available via the main door.
The Hall is used by various village organisations and for Parish Council meetings and is available for
hire. All activities were suspended during the Covid pandemic between 2020 and 2022 and some
village organisations have not yet resumed their regular meetings. The Hall is once again fully
operational. Information about forthcoming events is regularly included in the monthly Cleeve Prior
Newsletter, delivered to every household in the village, and is available on the Village Facebook
page. (Stacey, please give details of this)
The Management Committee is as follows:
(Current list supplied separately)
It would be very helpful to the Committee to receive feedback from parishioners on recent events
and suggestions for the type of entertainment people would enjoy in the future. It is the aim of the
Committee to cater for all sections of the parish. To make a suggestion email
cleevepriormemorialhall@gmail.com, or speak to any of the Committee members.
In order to offer the best service to the parish, it is vital to have wide representation on the
Committee. We would particularly welcome some young parents, and strong men!

We intend to produce a consolidated list of entertainments for the website showing events planned
by the Hall, Church, PTA, Heritage Trust, Players, the Kings Arms, and the Village as a whole. We
hope this will prevent unfortunate clashes, and also give everyone a chance to enjoy the wide range
of activities on offer. There are already many items on the list, but please make sure that Ian
Robinson knows if you would like an event included.
